At the MIAM the mediator will;
Explain the process as an option
Explain their role as an impartial professional
Take details of your situation to identify the issues
Assess if the issues you raise are suitable for mediation
Provide information regarding the other options open to you
Explain the information given in a MIAM is confidential
After separate MIAMs, if both parties wish to engage in mediation and mediation is assessed as suitable, a joint session will be arranged.
Mediation is a voluntary process but anyone wishing to make an application to Court relating to children and/or financial matters must, unless they are exempt, attend a MIAM.
